CARB Clean Truck Check (2013 and Newer Diesel Vehicles, Over 14,000 lbs)

The Clean Truck Check program ensures compliance with California Air Resources Board (CARB) requirements for on-board diagnostics (OBD) in heavy-duty vehicles.

What We Do

Perform CARB-compliant OBD testing for diesel vehicles manufactured in 2013 or later with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 14,000 lbs.

How Often

  • Commercial Vehicles: Testing is required twice a year to stay compliant.
  • Motorhomes and Agricultural Vehicles: Testing is required once a year.

Why It’s Important

The Clean Truck Check is required for vehicle registration and ensures compliance with California’s emissions standards, helping reduce air pollution.

Smoke Opacity Testing (2012 and Older Diesel Vehicles, Over 14,000 lbs)

Smoke opacity testing ensures older diesel vehicles meet California’s Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and emission standards.

What We Do

Use advanced smoke opacity meters to test diesel engines from model years 2012 and earlier with a GVWR over 14,000 lbs.

How Often

  • Commercial Vehicles: Testing is required twice a year under PSIP regulations.
  • Motorhomes and Agricultural Vehicles: Testing is required once a year.

Regulations

  • Smoke opacity limits are 40% for pre-1991 engines and 5% for 1991 and newer engines.
  • Testing records must be retained for two years and made available upon inspection.

Why It’s Important

Non-compliance can result in fines of up to $1,800 per violation. This testing ensures vehicles meet emissions standards, reduce pollution, and avoid penalties.

Visual Inspections for Alternative Fuel Vehicles (2017 and Older, Over 14,000 lbs)

We offer visual inspections for alternative fuel vehicles to ensure compliance with CARB regulations and proper vehicle functionality.

What We Do

  • Conduct thorough visual inspections of alternative fuel systems to verify compliance with emissions and safety standards.
  • Inspect critical components such as fuel lines, connectors, tanks, and emission control systems.

How Often

Testing is required 90 days prior to the vehicles annual compliance deadline to stay compliant.

Why It’s Important

Visual inspections are required for alternative fuel vehicles to ensure safe operation and compliance with state regulations. This helps prevent fines and ensures the vehicle is road-ready.
